today was my friend sam’s birthday. sam is the 7 year old son of my co-worker. he comes to work occasionally and has decided that i am his buddy. my co-worker tells me that he often asks about me, and when i was on vacation, he kept asking when i was going to come back. for sam’s birthday, his parents let him skip school and come to work so that we could hang out. i got him a radio controlled helicopter, and we flew it all around the conference room. i wanted to wear something that was comfortable to play with a 7 year old in. i very rarely wear jeans to work, but i though this was a pretty good reason!

for some reason, i wasn’t having it today (as clearly evidenced by my inability to take a good picture tonight). i woke up at 7:30, only to go back to bed until 8:00 because i was so tired. i was late to work and completely uninspired in terms of an outfit for today. i was chatting with a former work intern, who shares my style, and i decided to wear this skirt because we have the same one! hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day!

this outfit was inspired by a lucky magazine video tutorial on layering. i loved the idea of the first look in the video, which took a cami, layered a menswear inspired silk blouse over, with a vest and a sweater jacket (swacket?). i don’t own any menswear inspired shirts, and i hate long sleeved blouses, but i had this fantastic cream j-crew silk ruffle cami that i wanted to wear, so i swapped that for the cami and the silk top. i was originally planning on wearing the same skirt in pink, but i opted for the more neutral camel one so i didn’t scare everyone at work!

one of my goals for this year is to diversify my wardrobe. this dress is, admittedly, one of my favorites. i’ve worn it in the past with sweater tights. this dress is, also, very short. i thought that skinny jeans would be a good way to wear it without worrying about flashing the world my butt.
hi blogworld. it has been quite a while.
a week before my birthday (august 21st), i hurt my shoulder. i don’t know how i did it exactly, but it has been two months of pain and rehabilitation. i can finally put my arm over my head and reach for overhead objects.
i haven’t been feeling very well lately, either. very tired and lethargic. people have suggested that perhaps i have a gluten allergy. i am now on day three of a gluten-free diet. so far, i don’t feel very different, but i’ve heard it can take up to two weeks for me to feel better once going gluten-free.
since i have been such a terrible blogger, i am attempting to make amends. i am posting the two cutest commercials ever. enjoy!
and
monday and tuesday were hot, hot in new york!
i’ve always said that, as a vermonter, i am not engineered to operate in the heat. my upper limit for heat tolerance is about 85 degrees. any hotter and i find it difficult to breathe and to think. today would have been a perfect summer day for me, somewhere in the mid-seventies with a lovely breeze, had there been sunlight to bask in. alas, no sun, but neither any rain.
things have been difficult this week. i’m feeling like i am being pulled in a million directions at work, too much for me to do and too little time.
i wanted to share one of my favorite stories and favorite songs tonight, moonshadow by cat stevens. i love cat stevens, his music always makes me smile:

necklace: gift from a childhood friend when i was a little girl.
i have been stalking this skirt at anthropologie for a week or two. there was one in my size (14) when i spotted it, and even though we put it at the bottom of the pile, it was gone the next week. the anthro sales staff couldn’t find one in manhattan, so i ordered this one by phone in the store. because they didn’t have it in the store, i got free shipping, which was great! there was much anxiety on my part, since i had “purchased” the last one from the website and i had to wait until it was shipped to know that it was actually mine (someone else could have ordered it at the same time!). i love it! it is perfect and the lining is edged in lace.
I cannot believe that it is August already! This has been such a wet, rainy, cold summer that it has hardly felt like summer at all.
I think I am even more surprised that the end of the summer is rapidly approaching because my birthday is at the end of August. When I was a child, the approach of my birthday signalled not only the end of summer, but also the beginning of the school year. I loved going back to school, the back to school shopping with my mother and the purchasing of new school supplies (the very best part)!
I also must admit that I am not much of a summer person. I very much prefer fall, the crisp air, the fall apples and the approach of my very favorite holiday (halloween!). The thing that always made summer so wonderful for me as a child was my time spent at my family’s cabin on a lake.
It is
quite possibly
the best place
on earth.
Over the weekend, i had the pleasure of seeing away we go with my good friend roxy.
it was wonderful. a really sweet movie about a couple trying to find their place in the world. also, the soundtrack was amazing.
I begin my first blog post with a feeling of accomplishment! I downloaded a little widget to import all of my very favorite blogs from my Firefox bookmarks.
I must admit that I have started and stopped this blog a number of times. I cannot promise that I will be successful this time, but I can promise that I will try. I intend for this blog to be a chronicle of my life and times in New York City, with an emphasis on fashion.
I fear it is time for me to try to go to bed. Good night!
